Description
There is multiple facets to this piece; it means an incredible deal to me.
The first part is the figure of Jesus. I am a Christian; knowing that Jesus is there for us when we need him the most is the most important thing in my life. I do not claim to know what Jesus actually looked like; I was not going for historical accuracy. This is the way he came to my mind so this is how it got put down on paper.
The second part is a very special little boy named Connor. Most of you on dA don't know me personally enough to know about Connor. He was my youngest brother and he had a disease called Hunters Syndrome (MPSII). He died earlier today, peacefully and surrounded by twenty people who loved him dearly, a sliver of a fraction of the people who cared about him. He was an incredibly brave boy and he fought to his last breath; but his body just could not go on any longer. He will be deeply and sorrowfully missed.
The last part is the caption/title. My brother's hands were bent and hooked because of his disease. I had a younger cousin who was visiting one day and she asked my mom with the straightest, most innocent face: "When he goes to heaven, will Jesus make his hands straight?" The answer is yes, his hands will be straight.
This picture started as a sketch that I bled into my sketchbook when I was struggling with the concept of him leaving us when I sat by myself in the cafeteria of the hospital yesterday. The idea had been in my head for such a long time, but I had never been able to get it out on paper because of the concept that it represented. But yesterday something was different. Sketching this helped me find peace. And I felt a very strong desire to share this.
